Whanganui Heritage Festival
Whanganui is set to burst into life this October as the city marks a monumental milestone—a century of cityhood! From October 19 to October 28, join us for a ten-day extravaganza filled with excitement, history, and community spirit. Granted city status in 1924, Whanganui proudly became the first new city in New Zealand in fifty years, and now it's time to celebrate that legacy in grand style.
Organised by the Whanganui District Council and the Whanganui Regional Heritage Trust, this milestone event offers a rich tapestry of community-led activities that highlight our extraordinary architecture, vibrant arts scene, and rich sporting and natural heritage. With 24 unique events spread over ten days, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
The festivities culminate on October 26. The day kicks off with a vibrant parade weaving through the heart of the city, showcasing Whanganui's diversity and creativity. Following the parade, the city will buzz with activities for all ages, delicious food stalls, and live music, ensuring an unforgettable experience for residents and visitors alike.
